Bakhtiari carpets come from the Bakhtiari tribe of the Lur ethnic group who live on Mount Zagros, east of the city of Isfahan, near the city of Shahr-e-Kurd. They speak bakhtiari, a southwestern dialect of the Luri language, but most part of them speaks Persian, The motifs of the Bakhtiari carpets are stylized or geometric with square or rhombus tiles with flowers and animals motifs, symbols of the gardens and tree of life. The best Bakhtiar rugs are called Bibibaff, Chahar Mahal and Saman with the thickest knotting.
