Kilim Barjasteh or low relief is the carpet weaving technique that leaves unknotted spaces in a carpet to create two distinct layers: the base fabric (low and satin with the Kilim technique) and the pile (relief with the carpet technique). It is a technique used wherever carpets and Kilims are made, it is practically a mixture of Carpet and Kilim. In the case of Barjasteh Kilims, the knotted carpet part is smaller in percentage than the Kilim fabric part, and in the case of Barjasteh carpets it is the opposite.
